Inspired by W. Kandinsky's 'Gentle Ascent', the painting was started in Badacsony on Lake Balaton. Walking up the steep path, I stopped occasionally on the basalt rocks, and the view of the lake spreading wide below and the distant mountains became more and more breathtaking. I tried to recreate the pulsation of this path, the rests in the glowing heat, with the stones of the path and the colors of the increasingly airy atmosphere as you climbed, so that the different atmospheric details did not disturb the overall effect.
